Deciding Which Type of Dog to Get

I am finally going to let my husband have his way and get a dog. However, I am doing this on the condition that I get to choose the type of dog we get. That way I can get one that isn’t huge and scary so I will be more comfortable around it. I want something that is relatively small but not too fragile. I was thinking that I should get one of those Havanese dogs since they seem like they might be perfect. I just have to make sure that my husband would be okay with this sort of dog.
