More and more students these days are turning to private student loans to make up a shortfall in federal loan funding and this is fine as long as you have a good credit record. However, is this the best approach if you are looking for student loans with bad credit?

It is certainly possible to get a private student loan even if you have blotted your credit record but you should exhaust every possible avenue before you go down that road and this is something which many students simply do not do. For example, the majority of students never even bother to apply for scholarships and grants simply assuming that they would not be eligible. In fact there are scholarships and grants available to cover just about every possible student’s circumstances and this is free money! If you haven’t explored this avenue then you should certainly do so before you start looking for high cost private loans.
