Why is Electric Car Conversion Popular?

Electric cars should be driven as the infrastructure is already in place for their widespread use, while plug-in hybrids provide long-distance capabilities. This is why electric car conversion is becoming more popular.

However, there isn’t a significant savings from fossil fuels on a global level as long as the electricity is still being provided by fossil-fuel burning coal plants. To see the ecological or climatological impact, the electricity plants themselves need to be changed into solar, wind, hydro, or nuclear.

Even without that change, people should still drive electric cars. It will cut down on low-lying smog and fumes in the city as most power plants are located away from city centers and it will cut down on noise pollution. Widespread use will also spur the technological development of batteries and low-power electronics. In all cases there is not a strong argument not to drive electric vehicles of internal combustion vehicles, at least for consumer use.
