Live In Caregiver Program Contract Changes May Scare Canadian Employers Away

April 30, 2008 on 8:11 pm | By admin | In Miscellaneous

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Toronto) announced some changes in the live in caregiver program contract that employers in Canada will have to agree to in order to sponsor a caregiver support from the Philippines.

Filipino officials have imposed additional conditions on the existing document which, according to them, is a necessary step to safeguard the well-being of the foreign caregivers. The Philippines is one of Canada’s largest source of live in caregiver.

Some of the new provisions include:

1) Employers to pay the 2 way airfare of the caregiver to/from Canada

2) Employer pays for caregiver’s health coverage until provincial health insurance kicks in

3) Employment to be terminated only for cause

4) Repatriation of remains of the caregiver to the Philippines to be paid for by employer in case of work related death.

Caregivers support groups who have been advocating for changes in the program welcomed the new initiative as a positive step towards improvement of the live in caregiver program. But many in the industry, including employment agencies and immigration consultants complained that this newly imposed regulation will scare employers away and might consider other nationalities for their caregiver needs.

It’s an American Thing

April 30, 2008 on 3:11 pm | By admin | In Home

The word “American“, as defined in Wikipedia “is a person or attribute of the United States of America.” In layman’s term, it is the citizen of the United States of America who was native in the lands and regions of the 2 continents of the Western Hemisphere.

In addition, the American term is also linked to other things that signify its origin. In the line of entertainment, many of us are accustomed with American Gramaphone, American Music Records, American Record Company, American Record Corporation and American Recording Productions. In terms of autos and transportation, who can forget the American Automobile company and the likes? Whether it is about community, a place or stuff, if it has American on its prefix, it’s definitely an American thing!

No Happiness Masks Here

April 30, 2008 on 4:13 am | By admin | In Miscellaneous

We all wear a mask.  Or many masks.  We don’t give away too much about ourselves to strangers, because we do not trust other people.  It’s all about self-defense. But most of us wear too many masks that hide way too much., hiding a truly beautiful face  Let’s share a little more of ourselves with other people.  What’s the worst that can happen? Well, they might laugh.  They might look down on us.  Sure, I suppose that is possible.  It is sad, but the personality shortcomings of other people should not prevent you from dancing outside your mask, should they?   What if you decided to trust people a little more, even if they foolishly misplace that trust.  I don’t mean to share your credit card number with other people, just a little more of your beautiful face.

Help With Japanese

April 29, 2008 on 11:16 am | By admin | In Autos

We have started to do a lot of business with Japanese companies, and need to hire a Japanese translator to help us with this. It will be so much easier to avoid misunderstandings as our Japanese language skills and their English language skills both leave a lot to be desired sometimes. So far we have muddled our way through, but we think we could greatly improve our customer service if we could be sure to avoid misunderstandings by having someone to translate back and forth between English and Japanese. Where can we find a qualified Japanese translator to help us out?

N Gauge

April 29, 2008 on 7:15 am | By admin | In Miscellaneous

The world of Model Railroads and Railroading is divided into "scales"or "gauges". You probably are fimiliar with these scales, O, HO, N, and Z. The gauge denotes the size of the model trains in relation to the real thing. N gauge is 1:160 the size of a real train. Although n gauge is not the most popular gauge - that distinction belongs to HO - N gauge is very popular with hobbyists that don’t have a huge amount of space to build their layout. The smaller size of N gauge allows builders to put together a sizeable and realistic layout in a small space such as an apartment. Realism does not suffer with N gauge, take a trip to a local hobby shop and see firsthand how realistic N gauge engines and rolling stock has become.

I asked her if she ever heard of 2nd chance checking.

April 29, 2008 on 4:14 am | By admin | In Miscellaneous

My friend called me today. She was crying. Her husband had lost his job, and she had written a few bad checks to get groceries for her family. Her checking account was closed because of it. When her husband got back to work, she tried to open a new checking account at a different bank. She was denied the privilege of opening a new account. She was distraught and didn’t know what to do. I asked her if she ever heard of 2nd chance checking. I told her she could open a checking account regardless of the reasons why she was unable to do so at a bank. She was relieved to hear the news, and she opened a checking account by the end of that day.
